About the Book

The Gender of Absence: Women, Girls, and the Search for the Missing is the second volume in a series of academic studies presented by the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP). This collection of articles brings together the work of distinguished academics and practitioners to explore key challenges and strategic opportunities in the global effort to account for large numbers of missing persons. The contributors' work is international in scope, examining the complex and disturbing reality of how gendered expectations continue to shape cultural narratives and policy responses that affect not only women who have gone missing but also women with missing family members.
