Born in Busan, South Korea during the Korean War and eventually finding her voice in San Francisco, Theresa Hak Kyung Cha's legacy echos through her timely writing and art with themes of displacement and what it means to be Asian American.
We are pleased to publish the restored edition of Cha's Dictee. Produced in partnership with the Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive (BAMPFA), this updated edition of her 1982 masterpiece reflects her original vision for the book as an art object in its authentic form.
We also are proud to release Cha's previously uncollected writings and text-based pieces spanning the time period between 1976 and 1982 that explore the themes of displacement, launguage, memory, and alienation in Exilee and Temps Morts.
