UC Press is proud to share that Drew Harvell has been chosen as the 2020 recipient of the Ecological Society of America‘s Sustainability Science Award for her UC Press-published Ocean Outbreak: Confronting the Rising Tide of Marine Disease.

Granted annually, the award is given in recognition of “the scholarly work that makes the greatest contribution to the emerging science of ecosystem and regional sustainability through the integration of ecological and social sciences.”

The ESA said of Ocean Outbreak, “With a beautifully written narrative, the book gives hope for addressing the massive emerging problem of marine disease outbreaks. . . . [and Harvell] demonstrates that human actions can spread or exacerbate disease outbreaks.”

Congratulations to Drew Harvell and her fellow 2020 award winners! More information regarding the awards and the Ecological Society of America can be read here.
