UC Press is honored to celebrate our authors Tey Meadow and Aldon Morris, who are included among the 2020 American Sociological Association awards recipients.


2020 Distinguished Scholarly Book Award


The winner of this year’s ASA Distinguished Scholarly Book Award is Trans Kids: Being Gendered in the Twenty-First Century by Tey Meadow (shared with Pathways of Desire: The Sexual Migration of Mexican Gay Men by Hector Carrillo).

The ASA Distinguished Scholarly Book Award is presented annually to an ASA member for the best single book published in the two years preceding the book’s nomination.

Tey Meadow is Assistant Professor of Sociology at Columbia University.


2020 W.E.B. Du Bois Career of Distinguished Scholarship Award


The winner of this year’s ASA W.E.B. Du Bois Career of Distinguished Scholarship Award is Aldon Morris, author of UC Press’s widely acclaimed and award winning The Scholar DeniedW. E. B. Du Bois and the Birth of Modern Sociology.

This award honors ASA scholars who have shown outstanding commitment to the profession of sociology and whose cumulative work has contributed in important ways to the advancement of the discipline.

Aldon D. Morris is Leon Forrest Professor of Sociology and African American Studies at Northwestern University.
