We’re pleased to announce that two UC Press authors were honored for their achievements in Middle East scholarship at last night’s Middle East Studies Association’s award ceremony.

Fredrik Meiton, Assistant Professor of History at the University of New Hampshire, received two awards for his book Electrical Palestine: Capital and Technology from Empire to Nation. He received the Roger Owen Book Award, which recognizes the very best in economics of the Middle East, and the Albert Hourani Prize, which honors a work that exemplifies scholarly excellence and clarity of presentation in the tradition of Albert Hourani.

Ilana Feldman, Professor of Anthropology, History, and International Affairs at George Washington University, won the Fatima Mernissi Book Award for Life Lived in Relief: Humanitarian Predicaments and Palestinian Refugee Politics. The award recognizes outstanding scholarship in studies of gender, sexuality, and women’s lived experience
