Psychological expert witness James Garbarino shares the longstanding impact of the Miller vs. Alabama ruling during a segment of Rising Up with Sonali.

In Miller’s Children:Why Giving Teenage Killers a Second Chance Matters for All of Us, Garbarino shares his work on more than 40 resentencing cases involving juveniles, many who were given life without parole sentences, who are impacted by the Miller ruling.

He discusses the science behind the brain of a teenager and how that immaturity needs to be taken into account when evaluating their actions.

Garbarino notes: “I’m not aware of any real evidence shows that the severity of the teenagers crime predicts their potential for rehabilitation and transformation when they become an adult.”
