One outcome of the onset of civil war in Syria was the mass displacement of Palestinian refugees after 2011. Existing Palestinian refugee camps were decimated and more than one hundred thousand people fled the country, many of whom ended up in Europe. For a number of Palestinians affected by the war in Syria, this was no coincidence: Displacement of Palestinians from Syria was deliberately encouraged by the Syrian government, Israel, and Western powers united in a plan to end the Palestinian refugee question once and for all. Centering on the narratives of Palestinians affected by the war in Syria, Enduring Nakba explores the impact of recurrent, compounded, and expanded forced displacement on Palestinian identity and political claims. Focusing on the efforts of refugees to find protection and stability in the aftermath of war, Nell Gabiam offers a crucial reflection on the global politics of citizenship, noncitizenship, and (im)mobility.
