The intern's responsibilities will include assisting in preparing book manuscripts for editing, design, and typesetting; reviewing edited manuscripts; checking proof pages for consistency and adherence to editorial and design standards; editing and proofreading jacket copy; editing and proofreading indexes; and attending editorial meetings in which decisions are made about how each title will be designed and produced. The intern will also do a small amount of administrative tasks such as filing, handling correspondence, and photocopying. The intern will work directly with a small group of senior project editors who serve as mentors.
This is an unpaid internship with a minimum time commitment of 10 hours per week.
The Press is looking for an individual with the following qualifications: a command of grammar, usage, and punctuation; proofreading skill; office experience; and Macintosh computer proficiency. Prospective interns should also have a B.A. degree.
