We’re pleased to congratulate Rubén G. Rumbaut, UC Irvine Distinguished Professor of Sociology, on his election to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.

He joins 197 new fellows this year, among them Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winners and leaders in a diverse range of fields. Rubén himself is an award-winning and widely-cited scholar in the field of immigrant research. His broad career spans multiple longitudinal studies and numerous publications, and he is a frequent international keynote speaker and immigration consultant for national media.

Rubén has contributed, co-authored, or edited 14 books, three of which are UC Press titles: Immigrant America and Legacies: The Story of the Immigrant Second Generation, co-authored with Alejandro Portes, and Ethnicities: Children of Immigrants in America, co-edited with Portes.
