It is with great sadness that UC Press marks the death of pioneering literary theorist, Eve Kosofsky Sedgwick. Epistemology of the Closet (UC Press, 1990, 2007), the second of Sedgwick’s books, helped lay the foundation for queer theory. We had the delightful task of updating this seminal text with Professor Sedgwick in 2007, and working with her was always an informative and uplifting experience.

Sedgwick was Distinguished Professor of English at City University of New York Graduate Center. Her other books include Between Men, Tendencies, A Dialogue on Love, and Touching Feeling.
